W.B. Walton Enterprises Inc. (Also known as Walton De-ice) designs and manufactures the broadest line of equipment available for preventing the accumulation of snow and/or ice on satellite earth station antennas.
The original De-Ice products designed by W.B. Walton Enterprises includes a behind the antenna plenum (enclosure) which is heated with hot air. These systems are for antennas ranging in size from 3.7-meter to 32-meters in diameter. While there have been many product refinements over the years, to make these systems more efficient, and easier to install, the same basic concept is still in use today. Walton De-ice offers several options for heating including; gas heaters with their economical operation advantages or Stainless Steel Electric Heaters.
The ADC-3000 Local and DP-9 Remote Unit are the latest generation of control system offers you the most up-to-date and cost-effective Antenna De-lce Control System in the Industry.
Key Features
The Forced Air Electric heaters used on the Walton Hot Air De-icing Systems are built specifically for Antenna De-icing Systems. The Heating units are built to Walton’s demanding specifications in order to provide reliable operation over a long period time and under difficult climatic conditions. The heater (including the heater element’s fins) is made of Stainless Steel, and all hardware is either stainless steel or aluminum, for a rust and corrosion free life.
These heaters also incorporate the latest innovation with V-seal technology. Because these heaters are inactive for long periods of time, while also being exposed to the elements, preventing moisture absorption is paramount for long trouble free heater service. V-Seal Technology does just that, extending the life of the heater elements and improves their reliability.
The fan motors are totally enclosed fan cooled (T.E.F.C.) motors, which are better suited for this type of outdoor operation than open winding type motors. These heaters also incorporate built in thermal devices, which provide high heat protection.
W. B. Walton Enterprises, Inc. manufactures a Gas Heater which is designed specifically for De-icing Satellite Earth Station Antennas. These Heaters are suspended from the antenna mounting structure and provide economical and reliable service for years to come.
The original De-icing system includes a behind the antenna plenum (enclosure) which is heated with hot air from either liquid propane, natural gas or electric heating units. These systems are for antennas ranging in size from 3.7-meter to 32-meters in diameter. This is the original de-icing system originated over 40 years ago.
Both Snow Shield Cover De-Icing Systems and the Gas Heaters for Plenum De-Icing now meet the European Union Declaration of Conformity for directives:
EN 60204-1:2006+A1:2009,
EN 60529:1991+A1:2000/IEC 60529:1989+A11999 and
EN12669 (EN298:2003 EN126:2004 EN1854:2006)
EU Gas Appliance Directive Test Standards: 2009/142/EC (GAD)
EU Low Voltage Directive Test Standards: 2006/95EC
Environmental Tests: EN 60529:1991+A1:2000
W.B. Walton Enterprises, Inc. offers Natural Gas, Propane Gas, and Electrical heaters for heating the air inside the Plenum, located on the back side of the Satellite Earth Station Antenna.
One of the first considerations, when deciding which fuel source to use, is availability of the fuel source at the intended site. Electricity is more likely to be available than either Natural Gas or Propane Gas, but you will often find Natural Gas and/or Propane Gas is also available. You should also consider the reliability of the delivery method. Does the Propane truck have trouble getting to your site, are the electrical cables underground or in the air, and does the gas line have enough pressure to adequately supply your needs.
Next you should consider the cost of operation. Natural Gas is measured in Cubic Feet or Hundred Cubic Feet (CCF) yet sold by the therm with Propane Gas Sold by the gallon or weight, and Electricity sold by the Kilowatt-hour. These different ways of measuring and selling the energy sources, coupled with multiple heaters in different sizes, makes it difficult to compare. In order to simplify the comparison, we present the table below, which converts everything to a cost per BTU’s. Using the average United States cost from the U.S. Department of Energy derived the cost data.
Note: Energy costs are from the Dept. of Energy, Effective Date March 7, 2022.

The Walton De-ice Feed Horn and Sub-reflector De-Icing System utilize the existing heated air within the plenum. The air is ducted to the Feed Horn and Sub-reflector using a 60 CFM Regenerative Blower that can operate at 110 VAC or 230 VAC single phase 50/60 Hz. the system can also be used as a Rain Diverter System to keep the Feed Horn window clear of any moisture.
